Top Ten Tips To Budgeting # 4 Fridge & Freezer

Fridge:

A well stocked fridge is not necessary the fullest fridge, but a woman who knows exactly what is in her fridge is a goddess, and not only that, she knows at a moments notice, what is there and what she can create in a hurry.

Everything needs to have a place, it need to be clearly labelled if it has been taken out of its containers, and it also need to be regularly rotated.

How many times have unexpected visitors turned up, and like most of us we think to ourselves what can we feed them, all of us from time to time have been in the same situation and a knowledge of exactly what is on hand, is your weapon.

Knowing you have these few items on hand

  • Flour
  • Baking powder
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Sugar
  • Cocoa
  • Icing Sugar
  • Butter
  • Creamed corn
  • Bacon or Ham optional
  • Tomato Sauce
  • Salad Ingredients

can make a delicious meal of home made corn fritters with salad, and a microwave chocolate brownie cake for dessert, it is enough to feed an army and no one will leave the table hungry.
And all thrown together with next to nothing.

A little tip for the fridge is always keep a left overs ice cream container at the back of it, when there is a bit of mashed potato or a few vegetables left over add them to the container and every couple of days do a mini frittata to use it all up, or do a bubble and squeak night with a fried egg, fantastic taste and no wastage.

Freezer:

Keeping a notebook in your handbag is a great way of keeping track of what is inside the freezer, mine was always outside so my little booklet came in handy.
it worked the same as my pantry listings, subtracting essential items but it also let me know what meals it contained also.

Sometimes if meat was on special and I had time to spare I would make a Lasagne or Macaroni Cheese and freeze them to have for an easy sports night tea, or for when unexpected visitors turned up, we always had a cake or biscuits out there as well, and because we had the fruit trees on our section there was always fruit out there too.
